RELEASE: Audit Confirms Legislative Republicans Wasted Taxpayer Money on Unprecedented Political Sham to Discredit Galloway
 

Today, State Auditor Nicole Galloway released a close-out audit of former AG Josh Hawley’s office as requested by Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. The release of the report this week laid bare the complete hypocrisy of Republican state legislators and their unprecedented actions to investigate her office prior to the audit being released.

Just last week, state Republican legislators were up in arms over claims of political bias in the anticipated audit despite not one having seen the final report. Instead of waiting just one week for the audit to be released, state Republicans held an unprecedented committee hearing over an unseen audit. All in a desperate attempt to poison the well and discredit the only Democrat in statewide office and what they knew would be a critical report. The legislature had never before investigated an audit before its release.

“Republican state legislators should be ashamed of themselves,” said Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director, Lauren Gepford. “Rather than wait just one week for the audit to be released and look at the facts, they orchestrated a politically-motivated dog and pony show to try and poison the well and discredit State Auditor Nicole Galloway and career audit staff. Instead of wasting their time and taxpayer resources on politically motivated shams, legislators should be focused on helping people and cleaning up the mess in Jefferson City.”
