Missouri Democrats denounce Republican Legislators passage of illegal gerrymander and unprecedented attacks on Voter’s ballot power, urge voters to organize and overturn their actions
September 9, 2025
Earlier today, politicians in our State House forced through redistricting maps which are intended to silence the voices of tens of thousands of Missourians. This decision came despite bipartisan opposition, and ignored the testimony of thousands of Missourians who voiced concern over the maps.
“What Missourians need right now is leadership that is focused on their needs, not taking away their rights,” said Russ Carnahan, Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party. “It is shameful that politicians in Jefferson City are using this session to attack their constituents instead of doing things that actually matter: fighting rising prices, reducing energy costs, and helping everyday Missourians make ends meet.”
Chair Carnahan and MDP leadership encourage Missourians to join them at the State Capitol tomorrow, where multiple demonstrations are planned to highlight the injustice being committed by members of our state legislature. A press conference will be held by the Missouri House Democrats at 9:30 a.m., and a rally organized by pro-democracy organizations is planned for 12:00 p.m. The Missouri Democrats will be proud to join in solidarity at both events, and call upon concerned citizens from across our state to do the same.
About the Missouri Democratic Party:
The Missouri Democratic Party fights for fair elections, representative democracy, and policies that benefit all Missouri families — not just the privileged few. We believe every Missourian deserves a government that listens to, respects, and reflects their community’s needs, not one that cuts them out of the process.
