Missouri Democrats Slam Republicans on Extreme Measures Taken To Overturn Will of Voters
May 14, 2025
In a stunning rejection of Missouri voters, Republican lawmakers have directly undermined Missouri voters and effectively shut down debate on Democrats’ attempts to block the attacks on two voter-approved measures: Prop A & Amendment 3 by using the rare “previous question” procedural maneuver. This marks a dramatic departure from recent legislative tradition and an alarming precedent for Missouri’s democracy. Democrats vow to continue fighting to restore these rights and hold Republicans accountable for undermining the voices of the very people who elected them.
“Let’s be clear: Missouri voters made their voices heard. And today, Republicans made it just as clear they don’t care about Missouri voters,” said Keri Ingle, Missouri State Representative for District 35, Lee’s Summit. “They have chosen to side with wealthy donors and political extremists over working families, women, and the will of the people.”
“These are the rights Missourians just voted for. Today’s vote wasn’t about policy—it was about power. Missouri Republicans have made it crystal clear they will override voters, silence debate, and break long-standing norms to force their agenda through.”
Background:
Rep.Keri Ingle is a licensed social worker, mother of two, and dedicated public servant representing Lee’s Summit in the Missouri House of Representatives. She brings a career of frontline experience to the Capitol, having worked in child welfare as an adoption specialist for Jackson County Children’s Division, as well as in schools, hospitals, and mental health facilities.
Raised in a military family, Ingle learned the values of service, discipline, and community early on. She earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Oklahoma and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Kansas. Her work has earned statewide recognition, including being named Missouri’s Elected Official of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers in 2021 and Legislator of the Year by Missouri Kids Win in 2022.
