Missouri Democratic Party on Governor Parson’s claim he’s unaware of Rick Roeber details

Kansas City, MO (October 27, 2020) – Following news that, after weeks of silence, Governor Parson had claimed he wasn’t aware of the allegations of sexual and physical assault made by the children of Rick Roeber, Missouri Democratic Party spokesperson Andrew Storey made the following statement:

“For Governor Mike Parson to admit he is unaware about the credible accusations by Republican House Candidate Rick Roeber’s children of sexual and physical assault is implausible. Mike Parson is asking for Missourians to trust his leadership, but he has shown he won’t even stand up to those accused of child abuse in his own party. After weeks of calls for Governor Parson and the Missouri Republican Party to denounce alleged child abuser Rick Roeber, it’s inexplicable that Governor Parson simply ‘wasn’t aware’ regarding the allegations.”

“Despite bi-partisan calls to withdraw from his campaign, it seems like the $13,661.82 that Rick Roeber donated to the House Republican Campaign Committee from his deceased wife’s committee was enough to buy indifference from Governor Parson and the Missouri Republican Party.”

Key Excerpts:

“Democrats have called on GOP leaders, most notably Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, to join in the call for Roeber to step aside.

They note that the Missouri Republican Party publicly denounced the candidacy of Steve West, the party’s nominee for a state House seat in Clay County with a long history of espousing racist, homophobic and anti-Semetic views.

‘Republican Party leadership has refused to do what is morally right — to denounce the candidacy of a man credibly accused of physically and sexually assaulting his children,’ Missouri Democratic Party Acting Chair Clem Smith said in a statement last week.

Asked about Roeber at a campaign event on Tuesday in Columbia, Parson said he wasn’t aware of the details of the allegations, but if they are true ‘I would never support anybody like that. I will just put it right that way.’.”
