Kansas City, Mo. (October 9, 2020) – Today, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Gepford filed a complaint making the argument that if Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is going to investigate Auditor Galloway he must also investigate other statewide officeholders including Governor Mike Parson, Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe, Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick, and the Secretary of State himself, Jay Ashcroft for the same activity. Executive Director Lauren Gepford released the following comment:

“The investigation of Auditor Galloway is nothing more than a partisan political attack by the Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. The Auditor’s office has already made publicly available nearly 140,000 pages of responsive documents responsive to Sunshine Law requests. For Secretary Ashcroft to launch a partisan attack using the power of his office weeks before the election is a gross misuse of power and violates the very law at issue. We expect Secretary Ashcroft to take our complaint seriously and immediately open investigations into his and Governor Parson’s use of taxpayer resources to help their campaigns.”
