Missouri Democratic Party statement on embarrassing report of legislators and staff behaving badly

Kansas City, Mo. (March 12, 2019) – This afternoon, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on recent violent incidents in Jefferson City drinking establishments involving two GOP legislators and and a Senate staffer. Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Gepford today released the following statement:

“These reports of a Senate staffer carelessly handling a loaded firearm while engaged in a bar fight, along with a report that two Republican legislators were involved in a physical altercation are not just embarrassing, but alarming. Just today, the Missouri General Assembly Republicans argued for advancing legislation that would allow anyone to carry a concealed weapon in a drinking establishment without training or licensing. Missourians should be concerned that the legislators responsible for drafting this bad policy are engaging in such irresponsible actions. Speaker Haahr and Senate President Schatz must act decisively to assure Missourians that the public, and our school children, will be safe when visiting their state capital.”
