Missouri Democratic Party denounces House passage of illegal gerrymander, calls on Missourians to stand up for their rights
September 5, 2025
On Saturday, September 6th, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar will join with representatives of the Missouri Democratic Party and Congressman Emanuel Cleaver in Kansas City, MO to speak out against illegal gerrymandering efforts led by Governor Mike Kehoe.
“What Missouri Republicans are trying to do to our elections is preposterous,” said Yvonne Reeves-Chong, Vice Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party. “Their proposed maps lump dozens of rural communities like my own in with a downtown metro that is hundreds of miles away. That’s not representation,” she continued. “When you draw maps like that - to support politicians, not people - it’s everyday people that suffer for it.”
Senator Klobuchar and the MDP will also be joined by local labor organizations, the Jackson County Democrats, and elected officials who will add their voices in defense of Missouri’s democracy.
As Governor Kehoe continues to push forward his unconstitutional effort to rob hundreds of thousands of Missourians of fair representation, the MDP will continue to bring attention to this deeply immoral and unpopular gerrymander. Missouri Republicans cannot run from the will of the people forever - and they shouldn’t be allowed to hide from it behind rigged maps.
