Sen. Hawley votes no on Mayorkas, puts safety and security of Missourians at risk

Jan 26, 2021

St. Louis, MO – Today, Senator Josh Hawley voted no on the confirmation of Alejandro Mayorkas as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Michael Butler released the following statement:

“Once again, Josh Hawley has put political ambitions before the safety of Missourians. The Department of Homeland Security is crucial to keeping Missourians safe, especially during this pandemic, and members of both parties agree that Alejandro Mayorkas’ leadership will be imperative to DHS’ success.

Unfortunately, Hawley doesn’t care about Homeland Security, and he doesn’t care about Missouri — just political stunts that he thinks will shore up support from the members of Donald Trump’s base, who he riled up with lies that led them to storm the Capitol.”
