ST. LOUIS – Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party Michael Butler released the following statement on the progress Missouri has made with COVID-19 relief while the State GOP is rattled with controversy. MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow aired a 20-minute segment titled Missouri Republicans, Are you OK?” on Thursday, highlighting the turmoil within the Missouri Republican Party and their lack of focus on Missouri constituents.

“Rachel Maddow’s analysis of the current state of Missouri Republicans is spot on, and it’s something we have known for a long time.  Democrats are focused on getting people back to work while acknowledging and working through our COVID-19 pandemic recovery. The federal government just today announced impressive job numbers for the month of May, as over 500,000 new jobs were created in one month during a pandemic. Republicans are focused on fake COVID-19 cures, sexual assault allegations, legislative expulsions and protecting police misconduct; and that’s just the Missouri Republicans. Democrats in Missouri need to use this national exposure to pressure the bad elected officials in our state into making better decisions for all of us, instead of a few scandalous legislators. As Democrats we are concentrated on getting Missouri families back on their feet and fixing this inequitable economy that the pandemic has only highlighted.”
