The Missouri Democratic Party Stands with DACA Recipients #DefendDACA

October 13, 2022

The Missouri Democratic Party vehemently disagrees with the 5th U.S. Circuit Court’s decision that the implementation of DACA is illegal. The ruling questions the legality of DACA, which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and sends the case back to a lower Texas court.

The ruling is a far cry from inclusivity, as our nation celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 - October 15. This ruling is in direct opposition to supporting our Hispanic and Latino communities and all immigrant Dreamers.

According to Justin Bradley Reyes, the new Missouri Latino Democratic Caucus Chair, by 2050, 50 percent of the workforce in this country will be Latino. Despite Latinos accounting for nearly 20% of the US population, we continue to experience a lack of US Latino representation at all levels.

Wednesday, President Biden released a statement on the decision saying in part, “I am disappointed in today's Fifth Circuit decision holding that DACA is unlawful. The court’s stay provides a temporary reprieve for DACA recipients but one thing remains clear: the lives of Dreamers remain in limbo.”

This challenge to DACA is just another example of the extreme Republican state-wide agenda that could sweep across the country. This is even more reason why the November midterm election is about the principal values of decency, integrity, and accountability.
