Missouri Republican Party, Governor Parson still mum on Rick Roeber

Kansas City, MO (October 19, 2020)  It has now been 20 days since the Kansas City Star published accusations of physical and sexual assault made by the children of House candidate Rick Roeber. There has been bi-partisan support calling for Roeber to stop campaigning due to the seriousness of these accusations. Republican State Representatives Bill Kidd, Sheila Solon, Jack Bondon, and Shamed Dogan have signed a declaration asking Roeber to withdraw. Yet, the Missouri Republican Party, Governor Mike Parson and the House Republican Campaign Committee have refused to address these allegations or call on Roeber to suspend his campaign. Missouri Democratic Party Acting Chair Clem Smith made the following comment:

“It’s been 20 days, nearly three weeks, since allegations of physical and sexual assault made by Rick Roeber’s children were published by the Kansas City Star. Despite these allegations, Republican Party leadership has refused to do what is morally right, to denounce the candidacy of a man credibly accused of physically and sexually assaulting his children. Even by the standards of today’s extremist-led Republican Party, this is a shocking and horrific stance. Their silence is complicity. The idea that Rick Roeber could represent Missourians in Jefferson City is chilling. Yet again, we call on Governor Mike Parson, the Missouri Republican Party, and the House Republican Campaign Committee to denounce Rick Roeber, and, if elected, refuse to seat this man credibly accused by his children of sexual and physical assault.”
