Kansas City, MO (May 6, 2020) – As opening briefs are submitted in California v. Texas, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Gepford released the following statement:

“Attorney General Eric Schmitt is more worried about chasing headlines than serving the best interests of Missourians. To continue to press forward with this suit, especially during a global health pandemic, is immoral and illogical. Eric Schmitt would be responsible for at least 169,000 Missourians losing their health care. The protections for Missourians with pre-existing conditions would throw 2.4 million Missourians into disarray, putting them at risk of losing lifesaving coverage. The cruelty of overturning the ACA cannot be understated, without it COVID-19 could be used by an insurer to deny coverage as a pre-existing condition. We need an Attorney General who will spend tax dollars to help the people of Missouri, not one whose main goal is to score an interview on Fox News.”
